New size for AGs?

What to do? My chubby Samantha can barely squeeze into her talent show dress. My dd gets upset because none of her other dolls can wear Marisol's or Brooke's(AGT 24) clothes. I am currently on the hunt for some pre-mattel clothing.

Yes, the face molds have definitely changed, too. My personal theory is that, with the cost of oil (which is a component of vinyl) rising, Mattel has decided to reduce the size of the vinyl parts of the doll slightly to save money. So to keep the doll's overall shape in balance, they have to be slimmer. My 1991 Felicity and 1993 Addy are the chunkiest dolls, but the first (1995) generation of AGTs are no Slim Jims either. Which makes it difficult to buy the new sized doll clothes for Gina (my first AGT) because they don't fit her at all. As I've said before, the new dolls also have smaller feet than the pre-Mattel ones, so shoes for the new dolls don't fit the early dolls either. It's like losing weight. I'll have to have at least two sets of patterns to make clothes for everyone!

The different size bodies are going to make it difficult for us who sew and sell clothes for the dolls. I think I'll say in my listings what era dolls the clothes will fit. Cherry do you know how much smaller around the new dolls are?

From what I've seen of them, they are closer in size to the Batatt dolls, but with smaller heads.

Cherry, I noticed that too. I also noticed that Addy looked anemic (gray skin) and none of the new dolls were as pretty as my early PM girls. Does new Holly have the same hair color as Janice? I think they darkend it a bit because the AGT 13 I tried to open in the store didn't look like me but the one who belonged to a girl in the bathroom looked more like me.

I'm planning to do another comparison photo. There are a bunch of AGTs of various generations lounging around in the living room: Finn and Therian (dark brown hair, blue eyes), Holly and Janice (light brown hair and eyes) and even the change between Troi (AGT 24) and Holly are interesting.

I'm not sure about the hair color but the texture has certainly changed! I wanted a doll who looks like Eleni, with sort of pretty fluffy brown wavy hair. Holly's hair is very silky and totally straight. I put it up in double ponytails and the wrapped elastic scrunchies keep slipping down! Thin hair, too?

I'll take some measurements if I can keep her from slipping between my fingers. It's hard to hold onto a skinny girl who used to be a seal! (Holly is a selkie.)

I ordered Nellie when they first were released and is a "big girl." It's hard to squeeze her into the new Valentine/Spring dress. Might they even have manufactured Nellie in different sizes?

Interesting. Eleni is fairly new. Old Eleni had green skin and was exchanged for present Eleni. I think Eleni is very pretty and want one like her too!

I couldn't help noticing that all the AGs in AGPNY looked anorexic. It felt funny to look at them -- they were all so skinny. When I went upstairs to the Historical Characters section, I noticed that in the Molly display, the Molly doll dressed in the birthday pinafore dress had her crown balanced on her glasses and ears. It was much too big for her. In the Bookshop, a lady came over and picked up Anna Christina, who is a white-bodied Kirsten. Her daughter had just come from having her Kirsten's hair rebraided. I guessed her Kirsten was maybe from around 2002 because looking at the picture later, her Kirsten's face looks a lot like Therian's in terms of shape, size and eyes. If you didn't know that both dolls represented the same character, you wouldn't see much resemblance between them.

Lindy bought me a new AGT13 in exchange for Anna Christina and Holly (AGT13G) arrived on Thursday. She's obviously just like the dolls I saw in NY. So I measured her. Her head is about 3/8 of an inch smaller (measured around the ears) and her arms and legs are at least that much smaller than Troi's. Troi is an AGT24 whom I bought last fall. Even Holly's hands are smaller than Troi's. It's like the whole mold has been downsized by a fraction of an inch. No wonder the new clothes don't fit any of my old dolls!

This got me thinking -- the Marisol I bought the day she was first released looks like Troi and my last year's Nellie. I bet that AG ran out of Marisol dolls because they were switching over to making dolls with the new smaller molds.

Well as soon as I got Addy last Christmas I noticed that she was quite a bit skinnier than Felicity who is from '93. Her face is slimmer too I think. And her dresses fit very loose on her body (I bought the patriotic dress, christmas dress and work dress back in the 90s) but on Felicity they fit perfectly. Thats why I got Addys underwear so they would fit better and it does help a lot. This doesnt have anything to do with body size, but I also noticed that Addys limbs were quite a bit looser than Felicitys. I considered returning her but she stands and sits easily and has no problem holding poses so I didnt bother. Besides, Im very sentimental and she was the doll that my boyfriend gave me so I didnt want to change her anyway. Back to the size issue, I agree they are getting smaller and I dont know why. I dont like it though, I prefer the filled out body of my older Felicity, its cuter I think.
